Otis Spann - The Biggest Thing Since Colossus... (1969, Blue Horizon Records)

If referring to this album - no, but considering blues of Otis Spann - YES, he is the Colossus of piano blues, one and only, but…
Although this album contains bluesy numbers like Temperature Is Rising and Grainger/Robbins’ T’Aint Nobody’s Business If We Do, it’s expedient to say The Biggest Thing Since Colossus is a blues-rock album, where members of Fleetwood Mac are a locomotive despite the fact they are supposed to back Otis who plays as usual, deep down, Chicago blues but this playing is overshadowed by backing band members. It is known that Otis was enchanted by Peter Green’s playing and perhaps he tried to give latter more freedom, let them lead and went himself aside.
…this or that, if you are not familiar with blues of Otis Spann and you want to, this is not the stuff to start with.
All in all, considering Green God’s playing described as one of his best and S.P. Leary’s some extraordinary work and collaboration of best Chicagoan pianist ever with overseas musicians, which we don't have many, it is a good album.

Personnel: Otis Spann - Piano & Vocal; Peter Green - Guitar; John McVie - Bass; Danny Kirwan - Guitar; S.P. Leary - Drums.
