T-Model Ford and Gravel Road - Taledragger (Alive Records, 2011)

Although T-Model Ford picked up guitar later in his life, in some way he is deeply rooted in Mississippi Delta Blues tradition which is heard throughout all eight songs of the Taledragger delivered with equal passion and dedication but sung on his very own, original way to say the least.

Raucous vocals of T-Model, in addition to unusual mix of guitars, 12-string guitar, slide guitars, saxophone and piano/B-3 organ under the guidance of one of the last survivors, is rich and intense, expanding and overwhelming, creating mesmerizing ambient, the more so because music floats as a ship through furious mix of different styles of blues all of which are rooted in Mississippi Delta..

To say that this latest work by T-Model Ford is masterfully planned, arranged and implemented, means to underestimate it. This is a very well-considered, deeply heartfelt album, sometimes breaking rules of harmony, but where every accord is a necessary accord, and every detail is a necessary detail. This is irreproachable work. Such is the Blues symphony of T-Model Ford in which contribution of his backing band, The Gravel Road, should be emphasized separately.

Most enjoyable Blues recording of 2011 so far!
