20.01.1888. Influential Blues, gospel and folk singer of first generation, and player of guitar, piano, mandolin, harmonica, violin, and accordion, Leadbelly was born Huddie William Ledbetter on the Jeter Plantation near Mooringsport, Louisiana.

20.01.1922. Piney Brown was born in Birmingham, Alabama.

20.01.1936. Blues pianist Erwin Helfer was born in Chicago, Illinois.

20.01.1937. Saxophonist of Blues and jazz, Erskine Oglesby was born.

20.01.1949. Albert Ammons played at President Harry S. Truman's inauguration.

20.01.1952. American Blues guitarist, singer and songwriter John Campbell was born in Shreveport, Louisiana.

20.01.1996. American Blues guitarist and singer, who played guitar in Willie Dixon's Blues All-Stars, Buster Benton died from the effects of diabetes in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 63.

A Tribute To Reverend Gary Davis titled "If I Had My Way: Blues, Gospel & Ragtime of Reverend Gary Davis" was held at Kaufman Center, Merkin Hall (part of Lincoln Center) in New York City as part of the New York Guitar Festival with performances by Jorma Kaukonen, Roy Book Binder and Ernie Hawkins.
